Any warning out there on what I should not do or be careful of ? I have a 1991 Bridgeport V2XT. I've seen the tutorial, but I am sure a pic means one thing to one person and something else to another.

Re: Encoder Basics
Ummm . . . I think I bought the wrong encoder - will this one work on an Acorn board?
Thanks very much for your help,

Go to Automationtechnologies.com, look for line driver differential encoder....
2000 line or better....

Re: Encoder Basics
Im finding it hard to pin down the right encoder that isnt a chinese clone.
Could someone tell me if this is would be suitable
https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/rotary-encoders/9189095/
data sheet
https://docs-emea.rs-online.com/webdocs ... 4a8d5c.pdf
I looks like it could be, but the signal voltages look low, after reading a post a couple of pages back.
any info would be helpful thanks.

You want a Line Driver/Differential Encoder A, /A, B, /B, Z, /Z, COM, +5VDC

Re: Encoder Basics
Automation Direct has a lot of choices and in my experience they are good quality encoders:

Re: Encoder Basics
Thanks Marty its confused me as it says I can be wired for Push-Pull, RS422 or open collector. but i see no Z now. only 2 channelin differential mode.martyscncgarage wrote: ↑Mon Oct 01, 2018 11:28 amNo, that is a push/pull.osrix25 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 01, 2018 11:16 am Im finding it hard to pin down the right encoder that isnt a chinese clone.

I think europe uses different naming, for example, search "Line driver" in RS, or farnell and it comes up with a semi conductior rather than any kind of rotary encoder.
Anyway Ive found Koyo TRDA-2E2500VD in Europe. so that will do
https://www.plcdirect.eu/products/encod ... a-2e2500vd
for anyone else this side that might need one.

Line Driver = RS422
