I want to wire the whole controller to 230/240v since the vfd needs it and I have a 50amp 230/240v nema 6-50 for my welder, bandsaw and compressor. Have you ever wired your power supplies and vfd to a single 230/240v nema 6-50 plug? I know my panel is more than enough being 50amps. I’m just curious if you have ever done it. All my meanwell power supplies are 100-240v so that shouldn’t be a problem. I’m just assuming I need to add a 20amp breaker inside the control box before the pig tail obviously. I have to use a nema 6-50 since those are the 240v outlets I have, it’s single phase no neutral just two hots and a ground for anyone that doesn’t know.

Thanks in advance!!!

Dan
You can do it. You need to fuse your router appropriately. Buy a pigtail with the correct plug on it, and a fusible air conditioning disconnect. Wire the pogtail to the line side of the disconnect. Put the correct size fuses for your machine in the disconnect. For discussions sake, let's say they are 15amp. From the disconnect to your machine control, you can run #14awg copper wire. If 20amp, #12, if 30amp, #10.

In your control, you might want use smaller fuses for sub systems. If not you should wire all your power supplies with the same size wire used on the load side of the disconnect, dependent on the fuse size.

Home Depot sells fusible Air Conditioner disconnects for about $20.

You might want to look at Centroid's OAK/All in One DC schematics for more ideas.

Thanks Marty on the heads up on the disconnect, I can’t believe I missed that. Do you have any suggestions on hardware for inside the controller, either fuses or breakers? Most of what I see available is for a electrical panel. I’m not sure what I should be looking for, I will call a local electric supply tomorrow if you don’t have any suggestions.

Thanks again,
Dan

Either. I tend to be old school and use glass or cartridge fuses.

Thanks again for all the help!! Do you have a picture or link to the type of fuses you use?

Standard AGC 1-1/4" Glass fuse blocks from Jameco:
https://www.jameco.com/z/BLC-20A-Optifu ... 36243.html

They have midget cartridge fuse blocks, but you can't run down to the local hardware store for them:
https://www.jameco.com/z/L60030M-1SQ-Li ... 26604.html

Automationdirect.com sells fuse blocks. Look for the 30A. Those are the same as used in the Air Conditioning disconnect I had suggested, and those fuses you CAN get from your local home center

Thanks Marty, I was also wondering if you had any suggestions for the power, ground and common distribution blocks. I know I’ve got a lot of questions lol. If lived closer to you I’d buy you your favorite adult beverage!

Thanks again for all your help!!!

Ok thanks again Marty. Btw did you get a router ordered? FedEx is supposed to deliver mine this Thursday. I’m not going to lie I’m pretty excited to see it.

He responded once, I asked a couple more questions and never heard back. I guess I just build it myself eventually.

So strange, well I’ll post some pictures of mine when I get it this week. I’ll also keep you updated once I have it up and running.
