M400 CNC 11 and Look-Ahead depth?

Post by jake2465 »

Is the look ahead depth for CNC11 dictated by parameter 99, or is that only valid for Intercon? I am trying to figure out what the look ahead depth is for when g code is simply downloaded from a flash drive and not through Intercon. My parameter 99 is set to "1" as it currently stands. I notice that when running live 4th axis, the movements when the 4th axis is in use tends to be a little on the choppy side. I took a test video of the machine doing a Fusion 360 "flow" CAM cycle to make this mock up cam lobe. The feed rate was set to 24ipm and the program did finish out correctly to the end which I am happy about, but I noticed that it seemed to have stuttering when making it's way around the ends of the lobes. I am not sure if that is a case of the control not being able to process the code fast enough, or possibly the look ahead depth not set correctly?

I have included my parameters in the post. The only alteration I made was setting the control to "precision mill" smoothing. That helped settle down the overall stuttering of the mill to a good extent, but what is seen on the video is also after the smoothing was toggled on.

Parameter 99 governs cutter compensation lookahead, for resolving potential interference (e.g. when you send a large cutter into a small corner with G41 or G42 cutter compensation active. This applies to all G codes that use cutter diameter compensation, not just those posted from Intercon.

Accel/decel lookahead is much deeper; is not affected at all by Parameter 99; and follows different rules depending on whether or not you have smoothing (a.k.a. AD2) active (as you reportedly do).

Ok, So it sounds like I will need to make adjustments to the smoothing settings to get the accel /decel working better?
