Forget about smoothing, it has nothing to do with lost steps.

Looking at your MA860H manual, it shows resistors in series with the PUL-, DIR- & ENA- signals to the Leadshine MA860H drives. The Acorn schematic you reference is for a Leadshine DM series and does not match the schematic in the Leadshine MA860H manual.

Which schematic did you actually follow? What resistor values did you use? What voltage do you measure between VCC on the Acorn and COM? What voltage do you measure between PUL+, DIR+ & ENA+ on the Leadshine drives and COM on the Acorn?

My drivers are DM series (DMA860H). Looks like I attached the MA series manual on accident. Followed the DM series Acorn schematic with the only difference being that we aren't using the enable signal. These drivers default to enabled state with no signal.

I will try to measure the requested voltages shortly.

Thanks

Do you have a manual for your drives? (DMA860H)

I can't find one and would suspect you should follow the diagram in your Leadshine manual. We try to post schematics that work with various models but, when in doubt, always make sure your drive is wired per the drive mfg. spec.

BTW Not having those resistors as depicted in the Leadshine manual would definitely make the drive more susceptible to missing pulses/steps.

I just found a manaul for the "D"MA860H. The wiring is identical to that shown in the Leadshine manual you posted for the MA860H

I'm not having any luck finding one either. This machine was an import, so I doubt I'm going to have any luck getting anything from the seller :) I'm going to keep digging though.

Here is where I'm having issues, especially with things like the resisters. I know these details are import, and can/probably will cause me issues in the future, but could they cause the behavior I'm seeing? I'm fine if the answer is yes, but I'm struggling connecting these dots logically. It would be different if this was a homebuilt machine or one that had never run successfully before. This machine ran for a couple thousand hours before the switch to Acorn. That combined with seeing the same behavior with swapping drives/motors, and not being able to replicate on the old hardware is killing my brain though

Interesting. Would you mind attaching it so I can save it for future use?

It's not exactly a manual but it does show typical connections (click specifications):

All of the Leadshine "860" series will have the same connection and function. Different specs and costs. Some are for US Market, some for other countries. The more expensive versions have better features, Ones with "D" in the number are digital. Most not imported by Leadshine USA will be difficult to find English manuals. Some are actually knockoffs (irony???)

I have a number of the DMA-860H units on hand, infact suing one on the rotary axis for my "Acorn Project". I would suggest that you try the DB25 connection with all signals inverted and see if your problem goes away.

Thanks. I just found a pack of assorted resistors in my "stash". Will dig through in the morning and see if I have the correct ones to try.

Thanks-

That's good to know Gary. Do you have a pic of how you do your DB25 setup? Do you do individual solder style or a breakout one like this http://a.co/askeiyR ?
