M400/CNC7 to CNC12/Allin1DC

Post by glbreil »

Hello I am going to upgrade my Millport Rhino IV from my M400/CNC7 with a RYK2/Servo1 3-3T to CNC12with Allin1DC and I have just a couple of questions as I start out and I am sure many more along the way.

1. Can I use my existing wired MPG hand wheel, or do I have to go to the wireless?

2. I have a panel mount screen and jog panel. Together they are 20” wide. I was thinking to reuse the M400 can, but it’s only 19” wide, I am sure I can figure out how to adapt, but just wondering if anyone has cone it successfully without looking like a cobbled up mess.

3. I created a report with all current parameters and settings. Just wondering if all the motor settings will be the same or if it is different with CNC12.

That’s all for now, more to come I am sure.

You cannot use the old MPG handwheel with Allin1DC. You can either use a new wired handwheel (pn11069) or a USB wireless one.

I have a used ca. 2004 "Uniconsole-2" console enclosure (inside ca. 20" x 13" x 7", with openings to accommodate 2002-present 15" LCD panels and Uniconsole-2 jog panels. PM me if you are interested.

PID gains mostly translate, except for Kd. Typical Kd values in CNC12 are 2.0 - 3.0. Kv1 does not really translate, but that is because CNC12 does not implement Kv1 in a way that is meaningful for torque-mode control. The old values will not do any harm.

Hello Everyone next question and hopefully an easy one. I have a 5’ Centroid cable that goes from the Allin1DC to the Jog Panel, that won’t be nearly long enough. The Centroid cable is made from West Penn 22 AWG #3653 which is shielded 8 conductor with 4 twisted pairs like encoder cable.

Is there any reason it needs to be twisted pairs or will just 22 AWG shielded 8 conductor work just fine?

Thanks Gary

Given that it is for data transmission, and it would be inconvenient to get jog panel communication faults, I recommend shielded, twisted pair.

For an MPU11-family jog panel, you only need three pairs. In the factory cables, the WHT + WHT/BLK pair is unused.

Thanks, I was assuming that the communication was going through the shielded Ethernet cable and the jog panel cable was just switching, but I guess there is more going on in the jog panel than could be handled through those few wires for switching.

I have since realized that all the encoder cables went all the way to the controller on the M400 and go straight to the Allin1DC now so I should have those available as long as they are sufficient size.

Thanks Gary

There is no ethernet cable to an MPU11/Oak/Allin1DC jog panel.

22ga or 24ga is fine for the jog panel communication cable.

Thanks, I meant from the PC to the Allin1DC, but I understand now. Gary
