Acorn6 CNC12 faulting randomly???

Post by PrestonE »

Ok, we are at a Total Loss as to what is causing this or where to even look.

We have all 6 axis hooked up with 4 working with cables controlling AC Servo motors
from DMM DYN4 Servo Motor Controllers.

We have the Spindle working from the VFD and controlled in CNC12.

We have been testing by just running the Spindle at 1/2 of Full Speed and the
3HP AC motor is getting barely warm to the touch.

We are getting Random Faults that Close CNC12 on the computer after
times varying from 3 minutes to over an hour or not at all and we
shut down the system for a meal.

We have now run these test with the Spindle Only Running over 10 times and
have 8 out of 10 runs where the Controller throws a Fault opening the Primary AC
Contactor.

We went through everything in Bulletin 270 and 309 making all of the
recommended changes yesterday with our Computer Technician.

Attached are the last 2 Test Runs where the Fault Closed CNC12 on the Centroid
Configured All-in-one CNCPC.

We are running Version 5.30 uploaded last week and Acorn6 Mill Ultimate.

Also attached is a picture of our controller.

Any ideas or suggestions are Most Welcome!!!

All of your past help has been Greatly Appreciated and gotten us to this point.

Very Best Regards,

Preston

Update:

We are making progress.

1) We shut off the 220VAC Breaker to the VFD for the Spindle but still let the Acorn6 board think that it was
controlling it via the 0-10VDC connection at 4.85 VDC.

The first thing that we noticed is All of the POPUPS on the Centroid All in One Computer suddenly Stopped
and we let this test run for 1.5 hrs. Ran until we shut it down.

2) We then put Ferrite Beads on the 220VAC lines entering the VFD for the Spindle.

We started this and the POPUPS again appear over the CNC12 Software, but it continued running for 1.5 hours
until we again shut it down.

3) We installed a Line Reactor right after the Outputs to the VFD and have again started the test. POPUPS as before
on the CNC12 Screen but the Spindle is running and not Faulting or Shutting off CNC12 so far.

Will report further as we make progress and tomorrow we will put all of the VFD and Line Reactor components into a Metal
Cabinet that it will be housed in for the future and see what happens.

It appears that EMI is affecting the Centroid All in One Computer, as when the VFD Breaker is shut OFF there are No Popups
on the screen of CNC12.

Best Regards,

Preston

I'm assuming you are using shielded power cable between the vfd and the spindle motor and that at least one end of the shield is properly grounded?
Cheers,

Tom
Confidence is the feeling you have before you fully understand the situation.
I have CDO. It's like OCD, but the letters are where they should be.

Hello Tom,

Because the Control Cabinet is under construction and on the Work Table, that is over 5 meters from the
Hurco Bed Mill and it's Spindle Motor. Closer to 7 to 8 meters of cable in total.

Thus, we are currently using regular 4 Conductor #12 Cable in a 3 phase and Ground condition going from the VFD
to the Spindle Motor.

We now have the Line Reactor right after the VFD and then the Cable Run.

When we move the Control to the Mill for final installation, we will use Shielded Cable and Ground only
one end.

Thanks for this recommendation!!!

Best Regards,

Preston
