BORING QUESTION

Post by lavrgs »

i hope I didn't lose your attention already... Is there a way for intercon to do a multi pass boring operation? Or is it an inside turning operation?

Yes, that would be an ID turning operation. The F7/Turn cycle is implicitly ID if you enter a Starting Diameter that is smaller than the Ending Diameter.

The profile cycle also works for boring following the same starting and ending diameter rule that CNCSNW stated. You also need to have the correct Nose Vector set for your tool for either method.

Thanks for the info on nose vector. The initial pass worked very well. I hadn't tried anything with ID Turning so I'd say it went OK

I need to understand how Profile will work this making a 1/2 dia hole 1/2 inch deep with a countersink on the bottom using a lathe. I expect to have a 0.236 pilot hole - tap drill for M6 and want to use a Micro100 BBM 60-50-20 boring bar

Profile will start at .236,.05, first move will be a rapid to .5,.05 then feed to .5,-.5, feed to .4,-.5, feed to .236,-.618 then add your finish pass.

Thanks Uwe
I can make some mods to make it work - may not have to go this deep but I need the screw to seat. I would drill 6mm

You can change the "back-off" distance after a pass using F9 Options in Intercon. This will help with the interference on the backside of the boring bar.
