Can we get a tutorial on lathe spindle speed variation ssv?

Post by fusion »

Hello,
Centroid, would you be able to make some kind of tutorial on SSV and how to implement it?
Like when to use SSV vs FRV and when to use both.
I see on the wizard screen SSV is M94/70 to turn it on and M95/70 to turn it off. Is that the exact syntax I use in my G code? Do I just use a regular Intercon program and edit in these lines to use it? I haven't seen a M code with a /xx argument before. I don't G code much, so I don't have much experience with that.
Also, does SSV put much of a strain on the VFD?

Thanks!
Mike

SSV is easy peasy on a good VFD or servo driver.

It is used to reduce harmonic vibrations on long thin parts.

FRV is to get chips breaking on materials usually producing long chips.

Both must be set up by the user fitting its machine and material, there is no one fits all recipe.

Thanks Uwe. But that’s not a lot of help.
Was the syntax in my first post correct?
I saw your wizard settings in your video. Are those the recommended settings to start with?
Thanks!

I hate to post a Haas video here, but it's very good at explaining SSV and it's variables. I thought this might help others.

That video is saying the same thing as I do, you must figure out the settings according to your setup

Everything also discussed here:

I got it to work! My old loose atlas lathe is quite prone to chatter, and this eliminated the chatter on my test part.
Thanks!
