Hello Support,
I am running a working installation of CNV12 v4.50 and need to change my PC to a new PC.
I got an email from Scott Bennett who suggested I just start with a new installation.
The new PC passes all the PCTuner tests.
I copied all pages of the Wizard from v4.50 and produced a report.
I couldn't find an installation program on your site for v4.50 and after watching one of Keith's videos I thought I could just
install v5.30 and the copy the CNCM directory from my v4.50 version over to the new PC to basically continue as I am now.
The v5.30 install went without issue. The network established the handshake and the main and VCP screens appeared.
The problem was/is none of the VCP icons have any effect on anything. Could not reset the Error, jog or anything.
So, I then saved the cncm directory and copied over the old cncm v4.50 directory thinking that would work.
But, same problem. I get both main and VCP screens but none of the VCP buttons work. They do flash but nothing moves or reacts on the CNC machine itself.
I then quit CNC12 ,unplugged the Ethernet cable from the new PC and replugged it to the old PC.
Started CNC12 on the old PC and everything worked as usual.
So, I am at a loss here. I'm probably missing something obvious.
I've been away from it for several years and I'm not as sharp as I was.
I have attached the report file, I hope that helps.
Thanks,
John

Re: Moving CNC12 to a new PC
Under correction, you cant just copy the 4.5 install over the 5.3.
Install 5.3, use your settings from 4.5 and that should get you started. If you don't have access to those, you could look at the report from the 4.5 and see what your settings are and if needed, manually find and write them down and then update 5.3 accordingly.

Watch Keith's video "Install new version of CNC12 guidance and discussion and how to switch back to the old version" at
where he appears to say exactly what I was trying to say.
You can just copy 1 version's cncm directory in place of another and restart CNC12 and you will be using that new/different version.

Re: Moving CNC12 to a new PC
You can not do that..... "I then saved the cncm directory and copied over the old cncm v4.50 directory" Obviously you already found out that it won't work.
You are not updating with 5.3. You are doing a complete new install and you have to enter everything manually. There is no update, and there is no copy and paste.
It might be possible to get the original version you have sent to you if you email support. If you install the same original 4.5, you would be able to copy and paste to restore the same version. There is a 4.82 available on the download page, and that "might" work the way you want.

Re: Moving CNC12 to a new PC
UPDATE
Not sure how/why but I copied another cncm directory over to the new PC.
Started CNC12 which the Utility menu says is v4.18.
Went into Wizard and replicated all the screen shots I took yesterday.
Now everything works. I haven't run a job but at least I can Reset Error, Home, and Jog around.
I had not significantly modified the VCP so I think I will just leave well enough alone and continue with v4.18 on the new PC.
I do understand the difference between 'new' and 'copy over' I'm just explaining what I just did.
Copied the old cncm, ran CNC12, it thinks it's v4.18, good enough for now.
Thanks

Re: Moving CNC12 to a new PC
I just upgraded to V5.3 but as per the video notes I did a full new clean installation then went through the V5.3 wizard section by section and manually inputted all the info again. Seems a shame to be running an old version of the software when the new one is free, just needs 15mins of time to input all the settings again and copy/paste over the licence file and any custom macro files.
Actually what I did was rename the cncm directory to "cncm backup" before I installed v5.30 so I knew i could get back to a good working setup if it went awry, but all was good. It also then did not overwrite any of my custom macros so I had backups of them all.

Re: Moving CNC12 to a new PC
If you're happy running v4.18 that's perfectly fine, but I would highly recommend giving this another go.
The updates and improvements done between v4.18 and v5.30 takes up over 120 pages in the release notes:
https://www.centroidcnc.com/centroid_di ... _notes.pdf
Also, here's a document to help guide you through the "update" process:

I would also be happy to remote in and give you some 1 on 1 tech support if you'd like, to help get you through the process.
