Build thread for CNC tenoner control upgrade,Leadshine EL7

Post by merlin »

I'm working on upgrading the controls on a CNC tenoner.

I'm using the Hickory controller with the Leadshine EL7 motors and drivers.

I attached a current report from CNC12 and some "before" pictures.

I got the machine mostly ready to go. However, I'm running into some software issues.

I had connected the drives in the order Z, Y, X, but then it was showing the torque feedback for the Z and X motors switched. So I had the customer reverse the connections so that it is now in the order X, Y, Z, and I updated parameters 300-302 and 308-310. Now it's showing an error "949 Drive map does not match hardware" and he can't jog any axes. I had him confirm that the EtherCAT connections are in the correct sequence.

Attached is a current report.

Given the parameter settings in your report (P300 = 0, P301 = 2, P303 = 3) the correct order for the EtherCAT cables should be:
- Hickory to X axis drive
- X axis drive to Y axis drive
- Y axis drive to Z axis drive

Did you have him fully cycle the power (Hickory and all drives) after swapping the cables around?

Your mpu_infot.txt file suggests that Hickory did not see any drives connected at all.

OK, the 949 error went away. Now I'm having a different issue. I attached a screenshot of the window after startup. The Y axis torque feedback is all red, and if you try to jog the Y axis in either direction it gives a Y axis position error. It is as though the motor is stuck, however, I can run the motor just fine using the Leadshine Motion Studio with a USB connection. I did a factory reset of the drive and did the tuning procedure again, and restarted it, but the problem remains.

A report created at the time of error is needed to troubleshoot.

Well, it's working now. I attached a current report.

Now to work on a custom tool change macro.

Hi,

We are here to help.

Hickory is a new product so there are fast improvements, additions and changes to the CNC12 software for Hickory.
so to help us out in helping you solve this issue lets all install and use the same version of CNC12 which is v5.30
download here for free.
https://www.centroidcnc.com/centroid_di ... loads.html

please perform a 'fresh install' and do not use restore report.

“The Centroid CNC Setup Wizard Method”

Pros: Wizard sets any and all the NEW parameters/files for you based on your choices. Wizard creates the PLC program for you with all the latest features. No PLC programming required. Wizard creates macros based on your choices.

1.) make a fresh report.zip, copy it and make a copy of the CNC* directory and copy to a thumb drive

2.) on the exiting install, open the Wizard and press CTRL P save PDF to desktop and thumb drive

3.) run the v5.30.0 CNC12 installer, follow the instructions on the screen.

4.) Open the v5.30.0 Wizard (F7 Utility Menu, F10 Hickory Wizard)

5.) open each screen of the Hickory Wizard and configure settings and enter the data to match the information in contained in the PDF created in step 2. Press “Write Settings to CNC Control Configuration” and follow the instructions on the screen.

5.) Copy the G code programs from the backup to the new cnc*\ncfiles directory.
Navigate to the backup cnc*\ncfiles directory and copy what every g code programs you need to the new directory.

we've been looking into the y axis red bar issue with the EL7's here on our test mule machine.

our initial suspicions are, it is somehow related to boot up sequence. we are now performing a series of tests to isolate the issue.

one of the simple tests you can perform is to turn the power on to the EL7's first, wait a few minutes until they fully boot.
then turn on the Hickory. and report back your observations.

we can confirm the Red Bar on boot up issue with the EL7's is a result of the hickory booting up before the EL7's. So a right now solution is to power the EL7's first wait 5 seconds and then power the Hickory.
