How VFD wires up

Post by jcoldon »

I'm going to start new VFD question
this seams a centroid gray area of information

using vfd with a spindle motor not a servo motor .
i understand the VFD required needs to have an encoder input .

then if i need spindle orientation . how exactly does that work ?
it my understanding the hickory controller sends an output to turn vfd slowly . then once spindle orients in position . the vfd sends an output to the controller .
Well how exactly does the vfd know were the spindle position is located to stop . theirs no homing the encoder it 2000 pulse encoder theirs no position on it

my problem is finding an vfd mfg. don't call this spindle orientation feature.
the encoder card some vfd they call this closed loop .
so what exactly am i looking for in options in vfd to make this spindle orientation process work .

it goes like this.

1.) when M6 is issued, cnc12 moves to Tool Change position, closes a Hickory output that is wired to an input on the VFD to tell the VFD to orient and waits for vfd to respond.
2.) then the VFD orients the spindle and then closes an output on the VFD that is wired to a Hickory Input letting CNC12 know that it is finished with the orient.
3.) CNC12 continues on with the Tool Change.

easy peasy.

We use Delta 2000 with the position card (aka orient card or encoder card) for ATC's

Delta 2000 setup for use with Centroid instructions are here.
