I'm posted this in acorn section also incase hickory users don't read acorn.

i been doing a haas mini mill upgrade 2001

i been gathering information on how to prosed. doing my homework

keep in mind this is a haas mini mill 23 years old in has 1000 operating hrs so it hardly used it like brand new.
i just hate controller. kind not haas fan boy . i chose this mill it step up from my bridge port and chip containment necessary.
but it is personal use mill not job shop. i been told buy lot haas guys why do this. i leave it at that.

I'm at crossroad on weather i go ether cat hickory. replace all motors drives. around 1500 each using lead shine

or use acorn 6 keep existing Yaskawa sigma 5 motors use a Yaskawa step direction drive .i talked to Yaskawa on this.
This saves motor cost money. drives around 1000 each
also, i can use oak controller with that also.

looking at acorn 6 i don't see support for tool changer program. Like hickory and oak have.

my question is does the acorn support tool change . Haas tool change is umbrella. uses 2 dc motors and limit switched. nothing high tech
i don't want have to be making all kind macros to jump through software hoops. not really good macro writer. to make this work

there be about a 3 k difference figure in software. in cost between ether cat and using step direction
theirs Sofware cost difference between hickory and oak and acorn also
any big advantage to ether cat over step direction .
mi sure speed and connection better no need for limit switch wiring

any input on this

AcornSix can run the tool changer no problem. might just need a bit of custom plc programming. $120 /hr.
