OPCON and USB-BOB

When can we buy this? Will we be able to use our own operators/buttons?

Buttons are with interchangeable labels and could easy be configured for other functions.

It is currently in beta test.

Yeah but I'd like to add it to retrofits that usually already have button panels and the spacing is going to be different. ANYWAY, yeah how do I get in on this beta action? I'll buy one.

OPCON was a proof of concept prototype, the final product is a general purpose customizable Operator Control panel break out board. (aka USB-BOB)

Below is draft conceptual overview ,

supports 12 switches, 3 MPG wheels, 3 digital encoders (defaulted as Rapid, Spin, Feed overrides)

all inputs can use preprogrammed common functions but, can be changed by the integrator.

comments and questions welcome.

Are there to be more than one LED output from the board, for illuminating buttons?

That was the intent of the 5V power out on the button headers. However, I realize that some buttons come with built in resistors to run the LEDs at 12V or other common control voltages. What would you prefer for these outputs?

The LED output on the 5 pin header is meant to provide a connection status indicator for the panel. This one is open drain so you can really hook up anything under 40 VDC to it with appropriate current limitation.

I think Marc was asking about individually addressable button lights, or that's what I would be looking for. Some indication that my button press was acknowledged.
Cheers,

Tom

Ahhh, that makes more sense now. It is definitely possible and I'll bring it up at the next discussion.

one LED out is for a " Power is on and i am connected to CNC12 all is good" LED

the other LED out is for general purpose Button LED power.

the additional 5vdc power in connection is to help drive everything if you start connecting a million LED's together. and go over the USB 5vdc amp limit
