I haven't been able to use my lathe (been in hospital) but today I loaded the CNC12 V4.99 rev6 Beta and had two issues.
1. On the page that has the CNC Control Preference, Force Rehoming After EStop, that could be a problem on the lathe and maybe on the mill. If you are using an internal tool (boring bar etc.), have an EStop that is reset, the way I think most people have the homing sequence would be the X axis first then the Z axis, this could break the tool.

2. On the page for VCP Preference, with the Wizard Page size set to match the CNC Control Page, the Continuous Button is cut off as well as part of the text.

Thanks
Sorry, just saw the topic "Place to discuss Centroid CNC beta version software testing", can you move this to that thread.

If the newest version will be similar to 4.82 then after your e-stop, before you rehome, you can manually jog the tool around and move it away from the danger of breaking then rehome. Just like now when you start 4.82 you can manually jog all axis without or before homing. This is not advised because there are no limits established but it is possible. :o

Thanks Shawn for the response, I never loaded 4.82 because I could not get in the shop. I understood that I could move the tool first, but felt a note or logic based off of the tool orientation could automate the process. I don't see a problem using it with the Plasma, Router or Laser.

Certainly some logic would need to be applied before hitting "reset home". I haven't tried 4.99 beta as all my machines are currently used for production right now and I need them to just work. Looking forward to 5.whatever when it's released.

What logic would you apply? What if it was an internal grooving tool, or an ID threading tool? What if it was a undercutting tool that was midway into a 45º groove?

There are hundreds of different use cases, if you try to automate the recovery process, it's going to fail for just as many as it works for. Failure recovery is something that needs operator attention IMHO.
Cheers,

force rehome = after an estop condition cnc12 returns to the same home screen you get when first power up. everything is the same, you can jog, use the MPG etc.. to move and position the machine anywhere you want, only when you press cycle start does it run the regular home program to refind home. we made this an option since alot of open loop systems can drift a fair amount after an estop event and then cnc12 doesn't know where the machine is at. this is of course an option so you can choose to set the machine up this way or not. :D

"force rehome" does nothing special and is not trying to save you from yourself. ;) it simply makes CNC12 go to the home screen after an estop event.

I meant "operator logic" and in no way could you automate this process for the reasons you stated, there are simply too many scenarios. Common sense from the operator would apply and you'd have to jog the tool clear BEFORE you hit cycle start to rehome. It's also up to the builder to assure repeatable homing with good switches if you hope to pick up where you left off.

As Keith stated it's the same screen when you start CNC12. Jog clear and reset home. That's the logic I was referring to.

Keith, thanks for the information, I admit that I was not really sure what the force reset home did. Maybe an info button that explained what the function does to help make choosing on or off easier.
