reading marc's comments i thought he was asking for a virtual estop button which osha isn't going to like.
No, not at all.

I was suggesting that the appearance of the VCP reset button could change, depending on whether the actual emergency stop button was pressed.

This would make it more obvious to the operator that the machine is in a stop condition that cannot be cleared using the VCP reset button.

I think Gary is suggesting something a little different: to also have the appearance of the VCP reset button change to show when any other fault is present (e.g. faults that can be reset using the VCP button).
I am asking for no change in the action of the button, it works fine. What I am asking for is to have the visible button show as "Tripped" when any fault or estop has toggled off the no fault output. Like it used to. Didn't cycling the estop used to trip and clear the reset also? I like that idea more than a screen button.

After a few test runs, there are 3 states "normal", "tripped" and one that looks normal, but requires two presses. One to trip and one to reset. This occurs after any estop or fault that has been rectified and confuses the hell out of new users as the button looks like it is in the normal state.
ok trying to understand and help here..

1.) cycling the estop does clear the reset button, (maybe its your C86 board hijacking things?) but, not the other way around.

2.) yes, you can create a vcp button that would be a catch all fault indicator. so if drive fault and/or spindle fault input is made then the vcp graphic would indicate as such.

3.) only cycling Estop will cycle: "DriveReset" , "VFD reset" outputs (unless you edit the plc program to do what you want)

Maybe it could change to something in a medium gray, so the operator is a little more likely to look elsewhere (like, say, at the message box...).

That is probably counter to what Gary is hoping for (presumably a prominent "fault" indicator), but is consistent with the designed behavior: when the real emergency stop button is pressed, the VCP reset button has no useful function.

1) Cycle estop does NOT clear reset. Reset must be pressed twice to reactivate NoFault Out
2) I do not want to create any custom buttons
3) These are ClearPath systems using AVID or CNC Depot spindle modules, so neither of those resets re being used
Has anyone loaded my report? Something's wierd

Here is what I am looking for in the VCP RESET button:
When estop is pressed button is shown as "Triggered"
On Estop.JPG
When A drive or Axis fault occurs: (Text color hilite optional)
On Drive Fault.JPG
When Spindle fault occurs: (text color hilite optional)
On Spindle Fault.JPG
If RESET requires 2 presses, have the button say it requires 2 presses

thanks, i don't have a c86 handy, maybe chuck can bench test your setup soon.

video of how estop and reset interact on my system.

Keith, what version are you running there? 5.08 does not behave that way. I can cycle the physical button and/or the input and never get the VCP reset button to change state.

With 5.01rc5, it works as expected, and as desired.

I would say that mine (5.08) does not operate that way. Which is what I've been asking for in this thread.

Scott, Keith....
What is the state of the reset button when either the DriveOk or SpindleOk inputs are tripped?
