If you hit the sensors, soft limits are not set ok, or you are loosing steps...

.. I had this only with setting rapids (and frequencies ) to fast for the driver and wiring 5V to Headers with resistors ;)

Thanks Tom. How do I go about setting the soft limits?

Here is a screen shot of the current software travel limits. Can you please let me know specifically what I should change?

I just checked the Centroid installation manual (Section 7.15). Unless I am missing something, it appears that the software travel limits will help stop the machine from colliding with a limit switch. It does not prevent the machine from hitting a homing switch.

In my scenario, the machine is over-running the homing switch when a tool change is requested. The homing switch is located at the top of the Z-column.

Thanks... Richard

You have the soft limits set 0.1" past the limit switch. Do you actually have this extra travel before the switch is damaged?
Cheers,

Tom
Confidence is the feeling you have before you fully understand the situation.
I have CDO. It's like OCD, but the letters are where they should be.

Re: Cutter Compensation Question

Hello Tom,

I do have extra space before the stop, but I do not think this is the issue.

When I started this post, I thought the problem was due to cutter comp. I now believe something is wrong with the homing switches affecting my machine coordinates. This is a problem I previously posted; thought was resolved... but now I see it has not.

I read the manual section 7.5 and found that the software travel limits only protect the limit switches. I only have homing switches, not limit switches.

To help clarify my question, I just reposted under "Centroid Acorn CNC Controller" a new post "Homing & Limit Switch Unsolved Mystery"

Thanks.... Richard

That is the issue. The one side of the soft limit needs to be zero. I replied to the other thread, make those .01" to 0 and you will not go past the switches.

Read what it says right in this picture, positive or negative, not both.
