Poor mans DNC without network

Post by suntravel »

Since I have my CNC PCs set up fast and unsave I avoid to connect them to the network, but plugging the thumb drive form CAM to CNC and copy files sucks also

My solution is to use an USB switch and USB Flash Copy.

The thumb drive is plugged in the switch and form the CAM PC I let the PP write to the drive, than I only need to push the buttom on the switch and the file is automatic copied to the \cncm\ncfiles Folder on the CNC PC

In this example I decided to make two same parts because I have a second vise on the mill. Saves tool changing, because fusion is told to use each tool in G54 and G55 before change

I have a G_Code folder for each of my CNC machines in Dropbox. When I post the code on the CAM computer the posts are setup to save to that folder. Then I walk to the machine and it’s there, local and ready to run.

Does that mean the CNC machines are connected to the internet?

Yes. And I have zero issues. They are on a vlan that greatly limits their internet access.

Same here. Dropbox works great. I don't know if I shared this before or not, but with Dropbox I also use Boxifier. Then you can sync a specific folder such as "ncfiles"

https://www.boxifier.com/

I use the free version. I save directly to the ncfiles folder from Aspire, then go to my machine, hit load and there the gcode file is!
