I am getting ready to machine some Delrin parts. My speeds and feeds calculator indicate speeds and feeds similar to 6061 aluminum. Has this been your experience?

Re: Delrin - Speeds & Feeds
Delrin makes stringy chips on the lathe. Too high a feedrate will cause chipping on the surface. Milling usually does fine with feeds and speeds for aluminum, but you'll want coolant to keep the part cool if you are trying to hold tolerances or drilling deep holes.
Cheers,
Tom

Re: Delrin - Speeds & Feeds
Thanks so much. I was told not to use coolant. Turning on the MQL now.

Re: Delrin - Speeds & Feeds
Thanks Tom. This cam came out great. The coolant makes a bit of a mess, but the part came out fantastic!

Re: Delrin - Speeds & Feeds
Just curious. The cam has tight tolerances, the forks are not as critical as they work together with an aluminum guide. The aluminum has tight tolerances while the Delrin acts like a spring.. Do you think I need to run mist coolant with these forks?

Re: Delrin - Speeds & Feeds
It will probably cut fine without it. Keep your chips cleared.

Re: Delrin - Speeds & Feeds
Thanks. Interesting, CNC Cookbook's GWizard speeds and feeds calculator suggest mist for aluminum, but no mist for Delrin. I will give it a whirl.
