Thanks Uwe. Ok, dumb question as I know very little about these. Will these MGGN200 fit in the same holder as the GTN-2 ?

No you need an DGFH26-2 holder If you are looking for a 26mm blade.

Thanks. I tried to find a 26mm tall blade, but learned that if you mount it on a Aloris AXA tool post, the cutting edge is too high. I ended up ordering a a 19mm tall blade that accepts GTN-2 inserts. I was able to find these inserts that are not coated:

I wish I could have found a 26mm tall blade but was not able.

Hello Uwe,

I am about to part off a piece of 6061 aluminum. OD is 1.5 inches with a 1/2-inch hole in the middle. The piece I will be parting off is about .46 inches thick. I am going to try your pecking approach with the tool shown previously. I noticed on one of the videos in this post, that there was a small divot in the center of the part suggesting that your parting tool was slightly above the center. Do you intentionally place the cutting tool slightly above center?

Thanks... Richard

No, I am setting up the tool height to center height of the spindle.

If the part is not supported with a counter spindle, there will always be a divot on the cut off part.

In some cases, there I do not want the part to fly around, I do not cut off completely and break it off by hand,

Uwe

Thanks as always for your help. I was able to part them off fairly easily. For some reason I had to run at a very slow speed of about 150 rpm or I heard noise that sounded like too much vibration. When I slowed it down it went perfectly. The OD is 1.5".

I was able to finish these up on the mill.

I would be interested in your speeds and feeds. I have always struggled to part of aluminium on the manual lathe and when i get my CNC lathe running im hoping for better success.

Hello Stew,

To be honest with you, this is the first item that I parted off. It has an OD of 1.5 inches. The material is 1061 aluminum. I simply pecked my way through at 155 rpm. As I got to the center, I increased the speed slightly. It worked like a charm.

Here are the tools I used:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/351096300582

Uncoated Inserts: https://www.ebay.com/itm/355588615166

This tool holder is better, but it would not fit on my AXA tool post:
https://order.ebay.com/ord/show?orderId ... 8-401443#/

I hope this helps... Richard
