Great album, thanks for the pics. I still cant see if the Y axis has a belt reduction like the X axis. Pic is not detailed enough and too dark when I zoom in.

If you know nothing about the motors how did you decide on the current setting for the motors? Have you tried to reduce this? Do the motors get real hot? I would switch DIP switch 4 to off also. This is half current to the motors when at idle.

Did you dial in your overall turns ratio again with your dial indicator and some 1-2-3 blocks or other known dimensioned device?

So you're not sure you are missing steps or not, right? Is the issue on all axis? Did you test this with your dial indicator also? Try slowing the max rate down to 200 IPM, do some testing at that feedrate and see if you are still missing steps. Again, how are you testing for this? Out and back moves at max jog rate?

If, in the end, you decide to give up and buy new motors I'd highly suggest you buy new drives and motors that are matched to each other and closed loop drives. They are incredibly cheap these days and far superior to your current setup. You can buy a matched pair for probably less than $100 for each axis.

yes x and y are belt driven same pullies on both
defiantly open to closed loop what do you recommend i think im at point of giving up on this old stuff
gessed on curent settings thats y im thinking of buying new motors i have came with table
tryed to dyal in with 2in travle dial indacator and having problems got dialed in one day next off .125in tryed to redo and cant get 0 seams to change evean when i runn past to take backlash out doing all at g1 speed.

Loosing a lot of steps when that torch is on, WOW.

I would try shielding the motor cables, and possibly move the torch cable out away from the motor cables

Can you throw up some pictures of the same job when you're prescribing it and then when you're cutting with the plasma?. I'd like to see the difference between the two

Bret,

Can you throw a fresh report up.

Does the Table and the Plasma cutter run from the Same Breaker?
