communication stress test fail...Help! <resolved>

Post by cardin3 »

I'm new to centroid and I'm also new to the upgrade/rebuild community. I have many years of CNC experience as well as some decent electronics/ electrical knowledge. I have the Plasma machine working to some degree. Its moving, homing and the axis are set up. I also did some simple test cuts. BUT, I keep getting the 452 Ethernet communication error. Bear with me as I'm very new to this world. I ran the communication stress test and it failed. I tried a new Ethernet cable and it failed again. I ran the PC tuner before and since to see if something changed in the computer setting but the stress test fails. I have rerouted the Ethernet cable a few times to see if that was an issue, but it fails ever time. I also attached the information on the computer that I'm using, the computer does pass the requirements test but maybe it is still the issue? Pictures are attached.
Thanks in advance.
Mike

That's a lot of CAT5 cable coiled up in the cabinet, are you using a bulkhead connector on your cabinet? The PC is fine and does meet the requirements. I use those HP computers a lot with great success.

Just so you know, your msg_log.txt file is included in a report, not need to upload it separately.

I did uncoil the cable and tried a few more time but still no good. No bulkhead fittings, it's direct connection from the computer to the acorn board.

Next on the list would be to check and see who makes the network adaptor in your HP. All mine have been Intel and those have different settings that you need to change. Go into your device manager and look and see if you have the Intel network card.

If so, have you changed the "speed and duplex" settings in the advanced tab for the network card? See Keith post below for more details:

Are these errors happening all the time or only when the cutter is active?

It is a plasma table and the errors come up often it is not stopped the machine. I'm just in the process of getting this machine completely up and running. I have noticed a few strange occurrences and I think it is related to the communication issue where if I'm jogging the machine and I let off the jog button the machine continues to move it's done it three times so far in all three axis. I'm sure we'll get to the bottom of this communication issue I'll look into it more today than I would like to do the torch height control calibration. I just want to have the communication issue straightened out before that test.

Check the manufacturer of the network card and report back. I'm guessing it has the Intel card like all the HP mini's I've used. Start by changing the speed and duplex settings first and see what happens. This alone may solve those issues.

Once you start the torch it'll only get worse. Please follow ALL the ground recommendations in the plasma manual as they are all important. I also drove a 10' copper rod through my slab for my earth ground. ShopSabre required it as does Hypertherm per their ground document.

Thank you all for the good info. I did follow the grounding procedure which this machine had none of, so it is properly grounded as per the centroid / hypotherm instructions.
