we are trying to cut a 3x6 square plate. machine is cutting each line as a separate entity instead of a continuous cut any help would be appreciated

More info please. There's no way to know what you are doing from your post.
What CAD program are you using? What CAM program are you using? Is it drawn as a rectangle or four separate lines? There are many reasons for this but we need much more info.

Sounds like the DXF lines are not connected.
You can usually open the DXF and zoom in to each corner and see the gab between lines

We found the problem. in our old system there were cut rules in sheetcam that applied into the centroid post processor. we removed them and now it sees it as a single pierce.
