THC stopped reading tips volts

Post by jminardi01 »

Today we were cutting .375 plate and stopped for lunch. When we came back and tried to resume the torch would fire but not move. Troubleshooting I noticed that it stopped reading tip voltage. So far I have checked that the Power unit is sending voltage to the THC TX board 4.56 volts is what I measured. I don't know where to go from there. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Josh

The file was too large to post here so I made a driver link. Here it is.

Thanks

I also noticed the green light on the board is very faint compared to the rx board. The voltage into the TX is reading 24.1v.

Alright. So it looks like the TX board is still communicating.

I saw some odd cuts right before the TX stopped reading. It almost looked like a positive and negative voltage was read in one plot. The negative went above 10v during that plot also.

What plasma cutter are you using?
What generation is the TX board? When did you purchase the TX?

Can you repeat the THC bench test. Make sure the Voltage input to the TX is not backwards.

I am using the powermax 125a.
The acorn is about a month old.
I checked the input the polarity is correct. (We have been using it for a month and haven't changed anything.)
Bench test says 0 volts were read press cycle stop.

We did cut 9 6x12 sheets of 3/8 before lunch. Worked amazing. There was a few times when the thc stopped moving the z but that was due to it being out of range.

Thanks
Josh

To continue cutting. Turn the THC to not installed. You will need to wire the ARC OK signal from the Hypertherm to get a reliable pierce delay.

Really looks like the TX took a high voltage and was cooked. Will send a replacement out.

I noticed the voltage in the THC plots are not as clean as they could be. Grounding of the machine and Cabinet can be improved. The TX definitely picked up some HF noise/ stray voltage or something.

Can you Post some pictures of the Cabinet?

Joey

Here is a picture of the cabinet.
Do I need to order The board and return the old for a refund as the warranty terms suggest?

Yes Please. When we receive the TX we may be able to gain some more information on what happened.

Please make sure the machine and Table are properly grounded. I'd hate to replace the TX and get that Voltage surge again.

Make sure All Parts of the Table, Gantry and Cabinet are Grounded to the same buss bar as the Grounding Rod.
It's Always best to attach the Material clamp to the material on the Table.

Check out Hypertherm's Grounding requirements starting on Page 72 of the Manual
