newbie question clearpath servos

Post by bertieboy »

Hi, me again, if i go with clear path SDSK motors and purchase them {im in australia} do i need to run this "C86ACCP" board im reading about in 2020 forum threads? its to plug the servos into and i know i obviously need the teknic power supply to suit. I was under the impression the acorn board could be wired straight to the clear path servos and the power supply only ? Thanks for any info, Cheers Pete

Yes Pete, you can wire the Clearpath directly to the Acorn and not need the C86 board. You can wire to the Acorn headers by following the Centroid diagram, S14971 or wire them directly to the DB25 with a breakout board or solder up your own DB25 with just the outputs you need.

I have several system running direct from the Acorn headers using the 100 ohm resistors called out in the diagram. They run rock solid without any headaches from a third party interface.

That’s great Pete, good luck with the build. I also use their IPC-5 power supply but I do make my own shielded cables as the Clearpath cables are not shielded. I’m just anal like that.

cheers, Yes sounds like a good idea, I make all my own audio guitar/pedal/amp leads so I might just do that also. shielded is the way to go.

Not sure who your supplier of choice is down under but I buy all the connector housings and pins from Digikey. All the part numbers are in the manual. I'm just surprised they don't supply shielded cables, go figure.

and i'll add, Clearpath software setup for plasma use is covered in the Centroid Plasma Users manual here.

Clearpath hard stop homing is supported as well if you want to go that route.

I highly recommend using good quality home switches Pete when you build your plasma table and skip the Clearpath hard stop homing. Just my 2¢

Sorry just saw these replys, hard stop? Not sure what that is... still a newbie here but learn quick...👍🏻.... one more also, if i run say 2 clearpaths on each end of the gantry, was watching youtube where a guy shows how to tune them so their matched? Will i need to do this ? Something about the software not having the provision to tune 2 together on the gantry, so he weighs the single servo drivin x and compares it to the z axis and calculates the weight each servo at each end will have and tunes them to that... i followed what he said and it made sense but is the tuning necessary? Thanks again fellas 👍🏻
