A Fatal Exception has been detected. The application will be terminated

Post by schaffnerp »

This happened twice yesterday, on a restart search, when I changed from the graphic screen to G code screen.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Yes with the same program. Pretty much the first job I tried to cut other than some of the test parts. I finely got it to run all the way through, but made sure I didn't change screens between Graphics and G Code.

So the error message does not appear with the Centroid Default Test Jobs?
I've tried to replicate what you ran into with no success.
Can you post the g-code file you were running when the error messaged popped up.

Here it is, Im not sure of the exact block because it was cutting. I was having a bunch of trouble with the conductive touch off failing, only worked about 90% of the time. so I had to do a dry run to find the correct spot to restart. if the cunductive touch off fails the z axis ignores the travel limits and runs the z axis till the slide hits the end of the traveling trips the motor drive. I did a search for the block number and started cutting from there. After it started cutting I switched to the G-code screen and it came up with the error. I tried it again and it came up with the same error again. I guess I'm going to add another slide for a float torch touch off, and abandon the conductive touch off.

Its always best to have a Float switch backup to the torch touch. That way if anything does happen the float switch automatically takes over.

I'm surprised to hear the torch retracts until it reaches the limit. This sounds like the Torch tip shorts when touching off and debris is stuck in the tip. The Torch starts retracting but because the tip is shorted the torch keeps retracting since the tripped tip indicates the torch is touching the material.

Is that what you are seeing? The Z just keeps raising after a touch off cycle?

Was the touch off macro ever modified? This shouldn't be the case as the current Pierce Macro does not wait for the torch touch to loose contact. Once the torch tip touches the torch raises to the pierce height and starts the pierce cycle.

What I see happening without a float switch is 2 things. If the torch tip or the material builds up with dirt the torch starts feeding down in Z if it doesn't find the material it just keeps feeding down in Z bending thin metal. even though the travel limit has been passed it still keeps feeding down in Z till the Z axis runs out of travel, the servo drive kicks out. the M61 cycle completly ignores the travel limit set for the Z axis. I can't feed passed the limit in manual mode. The other thing is water builds up on top of the material where it blew through. the torch cranks down and hits the water then retracts from there to the perce height. pierces drops to the cut height. starts cutting feeds about a inch then the torch height control kicks in and drops the torch the thickness of the water. this causes the first inch of the cut to be a little tapered. I will have the float switch hooked up tonight. Hopefully I won't run into the fatal exception again.

That is one of the downsides to a Conductive touch off. There needs to be a relatively clean material to touch off on and if the material between the torch tip and the metal is conductive it could trigger the conductive touch early.
