Plasma 907 Z axis travel exceeded

Post by BARN_Bob »

This happens sometimes, Most times within 4" of the start of the cut. Any ideas?

In the wizard Try Setting the Soft limit for Z to 0 for plus and minus. Looks like the Z was trying to raise to the safe height which is past the Z soft limit.

Also your Z axis is set to 25 turns per inch! Is there a reduction on the Z axes? 25 is well above the sweet spot. Can you post some pictures of the Z axes? Starting a google album of the machine will help also.

I agree about the 26 turns to an inch is too much. I manually counted the number of turns to reach an in and was 13.5. I changed the setting in the wizard but when I tried it it only went up 1/2". I set it back to the original and it is the correct distance traveled. I'll get some pictures to send and change the soft limits as you have suggested. Thank you so much for all your help

I deleted my first response as I was looking at the wrong report.

I agree that 26.1563 is never gonna cut good. The Z axis needs to be the most "snappy" axis on the machine.

Please post pics of the Z axis setup and tell us the pitch of the ball screw. It must be a 1mm pitch screw.

Here is 2 pictures of the Z drive.
Can you give a description of how to read the plot. Especially where THC is trying to maintain volts set in profile manager?

In the cncm folder of the C drive open the plot.exe. once inside the plot.exe, To load a plot select file and open a saved plot from the cncm folder. Throw a fresh report up. I looked at your previous plots and the calibration looked good. I did see some grounding issue/ very low stray voltage but when the torch came on it looked good

thanks for the pictures.

this looks like a 5 turn per inch ball screw, why do you have Z overall turns ratio at 26.15?

i bet your steps per rev is not set right on the Axis drive. what make model axis drive is being used? what are the dip switch settings set to? photo please. please start a google photos ALBUM. (not drive) and share the link to the album here. that way all photos are in one spot.

We strongly suggest that all users create an online photo album using any one of the many free photo services like Google photos. This allows all your machine and control photos to be in ONE location and provides a "history" of your machine/project, then you can easily post one link here in the forum and we can see all the photos or just the one you want to show us.. examples... Marty, Kai and I have been using google photo albums for this.. here is an example. https://photos.app.goo.gl/foisQ42QZEbmA4Nv1

We can not stress enough the importance of PHOTOS. PHOTOS are key to us being able to see what you see. Post a description and photos of the machine tool and all its cnc controlled accessories. Picture is worth a thousand words and clears up misunderstanding instantly. The best way is to use a free online photo album service like Google Photos. Upload large high resolution images to the Google Photos, create an Album, put all your photos in one album and click "share" and then "get link" and copy the link it generates and post in your thread, then any one with the link can view the photos.
