Greetings...
We have a home-brew plasma table running DMM DYN4 drives, Intel NUC running Win10 with all updates, Hypertherm 45, Acorn board circa 2018, and the new Centroid plasma kit (green board). The previous incarnation using a Proma 150 THC out of Czechoslovakia has been in service for about three years. While the unit had its idiosyncrasies, it has performed just fine with reliable motion in all axes.
We were in the midst of setting up the Centroid plasma controls, stepped through all the setup procedures (including torch calibration and 4-inch line--it looked really nice), and thought we were all good. We were about 15-20 inches into our first cut after the prescribed setup procedures when the torch (Z-axis) started rising, then the torch stopped and all axes stopped dead.
We have since gone through multiple troubleshooting steps, but cannot get any axis to move… drives do not lock. Acorn has a heart-beat. We’re unclear on what to do next, and need some help.
Current report is attached.
Thanks for your attention… much appreciated!
David

Do the DYN4 drives have servo and logic power? Is the red light on each DYN4?

Yes, DYN4 drives have power and light is green.

Have you connected to the drives with their software to see drive status?

Hello David
I Checked out your THC Plots and I've found that there was no voltage readings in any of the 16 or so plots. I also looked at you calibration plot and no voltage was read in that job either. This would explain why the Z would climb and the Job would stop. Z Climbing is the torch trying to raise the voltage and then the job will stop when no voltage is coming in for the ARC OK Signal. Have you Performed the THC Bench TEST? No voltage at all sounds odd from a Hypertherm. If the Divided voltage wires are switched going into the TX Board that will lead to no voltage being read. Can you Post pictures of the TX Board wiring. I would like to see the Hypertherm wires coming into the TX Board.

Hi Joey, and thanks for looking... yes, we completed the THC bench test. We'll gather images and post.
And thanks again for the post!!

Re: Plasma table motion stopped dead during first cut after initial setup
Greetings All... here's an update on our motion problem.
We put a scope on the Acorn outputs and observed a lot of noise. We swapped the 24/5VDC power supply with no effect. We worked with Joey at Centroid and arranged for a swap of the Acorn (via RMA & $200 fee). The replacement Acorn was installed and we now have motion.
Conclusion: Something caused the Acorn to fail, though we really have no idea what precipitated the failure.
Thanks Joey!!

Re: Plasma table motion stopped dead during first cut after initial setup
No problem. Can you post a report after you have made some cuts? I would like to review your THC reports. Please send in the previous Acorn Board ASAP so we can look it over and get an idea of what happened. Good to hear the machine is back up and running
