Centroid is releasing the second revision of the Plasma THC RX and TX boards

Post by cnckeith »

Hello Acorn Plasma users!

We are happy to announce that Centroid is releasing the second revision of the Plasma THC RX and TX boards.

The new boards are easily identified by the color change from green to black.

The new Black RX and TX boards have all the great features of the rev 1 green boards with the addition of more inputs on the TX board.

The new inputs on the TX board are intended for plasma specific use. Torch Breakaway/Collision and Torch Float switch. With the Black TX board these signal can now be sent over the fiber optic isolation cable to the RX board for further optical isolation protection for the Acorn inputs. In addition to the added inputs the Black TX board has new circuitry for the “T IN” input (Ohmic/Conductive) which eliminates the need to run t he Torch Tip conductor through a relay simplifying the wiring and configuration of the THC kit.

Here is a link to a Acorn Black TX/RX typical 3 sensor Round Mount wiring diagram.

The new Black TX and RX boards do not require any software updates and are compatible with all Acorn Plasma software versions and Licenses.

Future Replacement Parts for Green RX/TX board owners: Black TX boards are compatible with Green RX boards so any future replacements for Green TX boards will be Black. In this special case the Black TX board’s additional inputs are not used so there will be no wiring changes when replacing a Green TX board with a Black TX board.

I will be updating the Centroid Plasma web page and installation manual with the Black RX and TX board images and information over the next few days. Happy cutting. -Keith

Are you offering an exchange of older boards with newer one?

I am still building my table and my boards are still brand new in box.

Hello.
there is nothing wrong with the Green boards:-) Plenty of systems running them. Black boards can be setup to run just like the Green boards or you can use the two new inputs on the Black boards for added optical isolation for Float Switch and Collision Switch. The Black to Green improvement is not a generational change just incremental. If you really want to return the green boards we will swap them out to Black for a restocking fee and shipping costs for the next 90 days (starting on August 4th 2022). After that $200 swap out cost.

Hi
Do you have repair options??.... I have a THC_TX (gree board) that I was cutting samples and suddenly stop detecting the material.. We double check the wiring and is according to S15137.dwg, but when we inspected the board it seems like one of the resistor is burnout ...more specific R39.

Hello Fabian

Schematic S15107 Should of been the one to use. S15107 Is for the Green THC Boards and uses the 8 output relay board to disconnect the "T in" input of the TX Board when the torch is fired. This Isolates the "T in" input of the Green TX board.

Schematic S15137 Should only be used with the Second Rev Black THC Boards. Rev 2 Black THC Boards do not require the "T in" Input of the Black TX board to be isolated.

Centroid Has swap out Boards available. The Acorn Support team can get a swap out sent out same day. Contact them via email at diysales@centroidcnc.com.

My concern is the ohmic touch wire would allow voltage from cutting tip to travel back to the THC board (black) and cause damage? The article I just read said ..the T-in port on the THC is isolated (Black) . Is that to prevent torch voltage from causing damage?

hello. yep, not only is ohmic isolated, but breakaway and round mount sensors are also isolated by the TX board. no sensor directly connects to the Acorn!
