Acorn CNC Plasma in commercial/industrial environment

Post by cncjeff1 »

Just wondering if anyone out there has used an Acorn controlled plasma as a "work" machine, as opposed to a hobby environment?

that's what its built for! :D
one customer has one installed on a huge machine with a 200 amp Lincoln flex cut plasma unit.

I am using my ShopSabre plasma equipped with the Acorn & THC for "work" as opposed to a hobby. Cutting hundreds of the same parts over and over. Up to 3/4" plate for some jobs. I finally have my arc voltage gremlin caged and he's no longer an issue. :D

I need to get a line filter on the control cabinet as I sometimes get noise on the incoming power to the Acorn control (pc resends) when using the horizontal band saw at the same time.

In response to your question, I use my plasma table when I need brackets, etc. So can't comment on "everyday production", but what I can comment on is the fact their plasma "motion control" IS SOLID in the production machining world. The plasma version is simply a modified mill version. When I say simply, that's to keep in layman's terms, but I have viewed the source code, and you can tell that there has been thousands of hours of programming, and testing in the development of this product. I have been involved in beta phase, and used it thru a lot of testing. It is solid, and I would not hesitate to utilize in day to day production.
