Plasma/Drilling table build

Post by repauli1 »

I am building a 5x10 plasma table for a customer. It features a 3"×6" gantry beam, my custom 1" thick 6061 gantry plates with DMM 750W Nema34 servos on x & y, and Nema 23 500watt servo on Z axis. It will have the 4" round torch holder I make, and will feature a annular cutting drill head to all precise holes to be bored.
Will be controlled by Centroid Acorn Plasma

Hoping you document this as well as your clearpath servo build! So I can use it as a blueprint!

Yep saw that, I am interested in using DMM servos on my retrofit, that is why I posted!

DMM DYN4 or DYN5? I just did a router retrofit with three DYN5 drives and motors. Two 750w motors and one 1000w motor. Smooth as butter and FAST. I have not worked with the DYN4 drives yet.

FYI, there are some people having issues with lost steps using the DYN4 when wired to the headers and many recommend wiring them to the DB25. There's a long topic on the forum about this for your enjoyment. Just wanted to mention this before you get knee deep in wiring everything.

I was thinking the DYN4's. I am assuming they are cheaper? I was looking at that thread last night, so that may factor into my final decision also.

Yes the DYN4 drives are less expensive. People report they work great and I love their product they just need to be wired properly using good wiring and wire routing practices, like all drives really, to reduce any unwanted noise. You can wire to the headers and check to see if you are losing steps with the DMM software. If you are then swap over to the DB25. After all they are 5v logic drives.

any reason you feal you need dmm servo or ClearPath servo
there many guys out there i helped build large tables 6 x10 use steppers run there tables every day do fine .
just look at kiokie Arenson shop pro there steppers 900 oz 34 use the correct gear combo you be good for way less money easier to service and build

Dmm 750 you Gona have to build gantry riser that heavy duty to handle the Tork and a planetary drive and mount system. This setup used on lasers
needing high speed power .

were a 900 8 wire stepper mounted on a simple Avid cnc pro drive give you fine results i dun lot of builds and designs. I fine the steppers do really well
and simpler lighter just as fast. my last build posted on hear do 400 ipm cut speeds with .15 acceleration full rapid 1200 ipm only draw 3.5 amp
using 72 v gecko vamper drives matched to acorn it motion in the top class as a 30 k table . have a look on cnc plasma table builders FB page
theirs few guys with 5x10 builds run all day long
any way some build ideas .
