When a drive fails you get a "Drive fault" message in the message window right in front of you. Do you need another visual cue? If the LED is on a board inside the enclosure how are you going to see it? For full diagnostics you can run the MSP software.

Are for the external board I'm not sure why they use that when you can simply series the HLFB signals on the drives into one Acorn input. If you look at the diagram you are referring to with the relay board (S14972 I assume) that's all they are doing. I'm no expert by any stretch of the word with Clearpath motors but I'm all for keeping the system simple. Why add extra hardware that can in itself cause additional problems?

If you want to use a relay board then this is a popular one that many have recommended:

Again, just throwing out my 2¢ worth. :D

Appreciate the feedback, I am also a believer of KISS, the only benefit I can see is it will tell you which drive has alarmed, rather than have a single fault. Which that does carry some weight in my view. I am at the tail end of doing an extensive Oak retrofit with close to 100 I/O, and was having a fault reported that made no sense too me. Ended up when I loaded a differant program into controller, it did not bring the matching error message.txt file. Upon getting a reply to my inquiry, immediately I realized the problem was my "slaved" 4th axis. If just a DRIVE FAULT error the problem source would have taken longer to trouble shoot.
I will read the manual on Clearpath, if they have a diagnostic led flash or color then there obviously would be no added benefits!
Best Regard

Then you can wire up each drive's HLFB output into it's own input and set them accordingly. It uses a lot of inputs if you have the spare inputs or add the Ether 1616 if you run out.

The Clearpath motors do offer LED Blink Codes and there is a section in the appendix of the manual.

On a complex system with over 100 I/O lines then yes separate inputs would be beneficial but on a simple plasma cutter I don't see the need. When one drive faults they all will disable. It'll take just a few seconds to see which drive faulted.

Since there is basically no load on the system other than the weight of the gantry itself, once the motor is tuned I don't ever foresee a drive fault for any reason. Not like a router or mill where the load is always changing as you cut.

Got some time today to work on panel, need to get it done, need to cut some stuff for my router build.
Pics in link first post.
I use heat shrink labels on all my panels, been doing that for over 10 years, gives a clean informative termination.

I have finished up my control panel, and test run my axis XYZN.
Installing memory cards, and SSD in NUC mini pc. Then installing MS 10PRO.

Looks great, thanks for sharing. It appears that you have all your enable lines jumpered together, Am I seeing this correctly? Is there a reason why? Just curious.

Just FYI, I mounted my control cabinet laying down on a low profile printer cart, then I roll it under the cutting table to keep it clean. It's handy because you can roll it out and open it to service it, sitting on a fold up chair. I have back issues so it's a win for me. Pic with old panel so you can see cart
