thanks for posting the photos.
our test bed machine had direct drive pinion like the machine you have, while this worked, we ended up putting a $200 5:1 gear box on X and Y axis and got better motion (smoother cuts) out of the machine.

Here's the 5:1 Gear boxes on the X and Y axis. 2 for the paired Y axis and 1 for the X axis. (FYI the overall turns ration on the X and Y axis is 1.32639 which is a nice compromise between speed and accuracy)
Gear box was not needed for the Z axis as it is ball screw driven, direct drive 2.5 turns per inch which is right in the sweet spot for a plasma machine.

So adding the 5:1 gear box reduces the work the stepper motor has to do and gave you better cuts!! … I’ll have to look to see if I can find them and see what it’ll take to convert! I do have a question. When I get my acorn board I want to get another stepper driver and run the 2 Y axis motors separately for auto squaring. But also keep my 4th rotary axis I believe the acorn does this? (Auto squaring with rotary?)
Never mind I answered my own question

the Acorn axis pairing documentation link is below...it shows what we inherently support. this is not the only way to do auto squaring, it is just what we officially support.. the short answer is that you'd need 5 axes under cnc control to have our as supplied software do software auto squaring AND a rotary axis. we are working on a six axis version of the Acorn so Acorn users can do stuff like that.

related.. "toaster" on the forum has written his own auto squaring macro that is pretty nice.. i will probably update ours to something similar in the future.

Good afternoon noon Keith, I received the boards today, it looks like I have everything except I need 2 green connectors. I have one included that goes to the power supply, although I need one that’ll hook up to the plasma cutter voltage etc

I bought them no problem. I’m hooking up the box today. If I remember correctly the guys on the forum recommended to hook the wires from the drivers to a db25 instead of directly to the acorn board. I’m not sure why that is… I ordered a db25 and it’ll be here in a couple days. I’ll have to look into how you hooked up your thc boards. See if you have pictures on that.

A couple questions.
1 would it benefit any if I changed the wires from the steppers to shielded wires? (I have them) limit switches also?
2 I’ve seen that you should run a ground from the machine to an earth ground.
3. Thc boards where to mount.
4 (from above) db25 board needed?

Sorry pretty loaded post.
