charge pump on g540

I've Dubble checked all connections to be correct. but cannot get the charge pump to go from red to green when e-stop is triggered. with the charge pump on the G540 off it works just fine. Do I need the charge pump? I think to get it working must be in the settings.
CHARGE PUMP: The G540 is equipped with a charge pump (watchdog timer) that disables the drive without a 10 kHz signal on pin 16 of the DB25 port. You can enable this by reversing what was done in STEP 3 and making sure that your parallel port is set to EPP mode. To do this, go into BIOS and set your parallel port to either “EPP” or “Send/Receive”; most parallel cards are set to ECP or “Send Only” by default.
In the config wizard there is a formula under -advanced hardware-,-charge pump- to set the kHz. I don't understand the math to come up with 10 kHz
