Ethernet Cable error? Z Exceeded?

Post by wesgyver »

My plasma cutter stopped working in the new year and I just left it alone until now. I should have run the report and posted the question right away, but was not able to at the time and now what all happened is a bit fuzzy.(Personal life has been busy and this is basically a hobby machine.)

A little while before that I upgraded my computer and the machine worked for a while, but one day I noticed it started popping up a "452 Ethernet Communication Error, See Tech Bulletin 270" I don't remember ever seeing the error with my last computer. I saw the error a few times but things still worked fine. I noticed that when we had moved the computer that the cable looked like it had possibly been bent a bit tight. I ordered a new cable figuring I might have damaged it. The cable I ordered was from Amazon, "Cable Matters 10Gbps Snagless Shielded Cat6A Ethernet Cable 25 ft (SSTP, SFTP Shielded Ethernet Cable, Shielded Cat6 Cable, Cat 6 Shielded Network Cable) in Black." I realize this is a Cat 6 cable but in my reading I understood they were backwards compatible. Same error either cable.

A couple of cuts made it most of the way through, but then had the above communication error and a highlighted "907 Z axis travel exceeded" I tried following the recommended steps such as running the tuner program which did not help.

Now, it fails directly after the first touch off. Since the problem is now at the beginning, not just part way through the cut I thought I must have screwed something up while trying to fix the problem. I plugged in my old computer and tried that. Same issue. Either Cable, either computer and same error. In my mind that means the issue has to be in the controller or the plasma cutter.

I've attached to reports. I ran one Jan 20th, but never got to posting the problem. I've tried a few things and decided I should run a fresh report just in case I changed something without changing it back.

Let me know what other information I should provide

Here is the info about my setup:
Acorn CNC Plasma with THC (BLack)
A retrofitted 5x10 CNC Router setup made into a plasma table with SureStep STP-MTRH-34097 with DM860E Drivers (While this is not a great setup, it has been working for us.)
Everlast Plasma with CNC package

the report is full of Communication Errors. no way a machine can run with these, fix them first.
Here is how.

Where and how do you find that error report? I made a report, but I'm not sure where to look

Thanks CNCKeith for replying. We went through the steps on TB270. Turns out I did have a couple things checked off here and there that should not have been. We replaced the computer a while back and I guess when I redid the current one I missed some steps. I had run the PC Tuner, but a couple Windows settings were wrong. They are fixed now.

Unfortunately after carefully going through the steps, I still had exactly the same issues. I don't know how to clear the errors that are there. We were stumped so we decided to run a revert back to a previous backup. We reverted back to a December backup. This solved some of our problems. I guess, in my attempt to fix things I had deleted an input. Not sure how or why I would have done that. Now that the inputs are as they should be it no longer thinks it is hitting the Z limit (907) when touching off. I was even able to cut my little 1" square test cut. But, it still says "Ethernet communication error". I'm not sure what else to check. I'm attaching a new report that I ran after reverting. Obviously it still has communication errors, but I've run through the list on the TB270. This is using the new Cat6 cable. I bought the new cable thinking that our old cable may have had a kink. It did not make a difference. I also tried rerouting the cable in case something was causing interference. No difference.

Thanks for your help.
Wes

While going through the steps listed on TB270 I found it somewhat confusing, often being redirected to pages that seemed to be the same steps. I just looked it over again to make sure I didn't miss anything and I see the Stress Test file. I did not run that. I had done the ping tests and all was good. I'll run the stress test file when I go back to the shop this next week.

Can you please share any pictures of the cabinet and PC?

It maybe worth pulling the PC and Acorn and setting up the PC bench test to rule out the Cabinet as the cause for the COM errors.

Sure. I will do that this week when I go there. The machine is set up at a friend's shop.
