haas mini mill retro

I'm looking at retro to haas mini mill it 2001 the machine super clean
question what the best rout to take what controller one Z axis motor Yaskawa SGMGV-09ADA6C i have to take it apart to see the rest
looks like haas uses there own drives . have no clue if it step direction or analog
the motor encoder wire goes to their controller. not the drive i assume i need to replace the drive
with a new Yaskawa can this motor use ether cat drives

the controller on the haas is old floppy disk . haas wants crazy money to upgrade so i was thinking centroid be best rout i have acorn plasma now
any advice on this for the best rout .
the machine looks brand new never used so i know all motors should be fine

Are you sure about the "SGMV" part? Or was that perhaps "SGMG" or "SGMGH" or "SGMGV"?

Using the Haas drive(s) is probably a non-starter. Haas is unlikely to provide any useful interface information for you to work with.

Installing Yaskawa drives compatible with the existing motors is a possibility, but if they are old (Sigma I or Sigma II, for example) then new drives will be unavailable or very expensive, and used ones will be risky.

You could buy new Sigma 7 Ethercat drives, and new Sigma 7 motors to go with them. If you match the motor type (850W 200V, with a brake on the Z) then it is very likely that the new motors will be a bolt-in replacement: the face flanges and shaft diameters should match. Often the case length of newer motors is shorter, so you would need to look at cable clearance if the motor is installed in a recessed area.

It is likely that you can get EtherCAT Yaskawa drives, either Sigma V or Sigma 7, that will work with those motors. You will want to get confirmation from Yaskawa about that before you order.

i just herd back from yaskawa they have ethercat sig 5 drives they going to sent me info . they say it same as sig 7 . i send info to centroid see what they say . they also want to know how haas using different drive with there motors asked to send pic of haas servo amp

we have not tested ethercat sigma 5. we do not recommend sigma 5 ethercat.

sigma 5 works great with Acorn and Oak.
