Encoder issue - counting wrong direction? <answered>

Post by NeilS »

HI,

One of the encoders (Z axis) on the machine I am retrofitting did not work, I bought the machine as a non working one. I have fitted a new Tamagawa OIH-48, which is what the other two have been upgraded to. I tested the system today and the encoder seems to count backwards. i.e turned anti-clockwise looking on the motor pulley it counts down, one turn giving -8000 counts in the PID page. Both the other encoders are wired the same inside the motor cap as I have done with this one and I was careful to cross check the wiring on the old encoder. I have confirmed the issue is at the motor as I tried the X axis motor on the Z cable and that goes the right way.

Is it possible to reverse in settings somehow, if not how would it be done in the wiring?

Either swap your A channel wires with your B channel wires,
or exchange the two A channel wires,
or exchange the two B channel wires.

There is no software setting to reverse the direction of an incoming axis encoder signal.
