wireless 3d-Probe and tool measure device issue

Post by Houseman303 »

Hello, I am currently setting up a wireless 3D probe and a permanently installed tool length measuring device with laser. I can't use the plugged in port on both. 3d-probe is created as tool 200 in the tool table. Both measuring systems are NC. Tips for solving the error messages? Greetings Heiko

Hello Heiko,
What error messages are you getting? How do you currently have it wired?

You will probably need to make new cables to use both devices with the Probe Header (H17 on Oak). Is the problem with putting both the TT and 3D probe on that header that they cannot share the same PLC input? If so, you should be able to repurpose the "Probe DSP" input on that header for the TT. Set Parameter 44 to -50770 to use that input for a TT that opens when triggered. No PLC changes should be necessary.

Pinout diagram shown below is taken from page 87 of the Oak Install Manual. Pin 1 is bottom left and pin 2 is bottom right.

Hello,

I cannot connect probe detect input for both devices (PLC 50771 and PLC 50772. So you get an error message that it is not connected. Constantly bridging probe detect input means having a permanently restricted feed rate.

Could you please post either the manual or the names of the devices you are using? It would help us help you if we had the documentation for them... Without any detailed information, I am just grasping at straws here and guessing to fill in the blanks.

I believe I ran into similar problems when I was testing a Vers WLR here as well. It does not provide for a probe detect as our controls expect. I shorted the detect signal to GND at the receiver which meant that it needed to be disconnected when not probing. This somewhat defeats the advantages of a wireless probe.

The PNP output sensor will not work with the probe header because the probe header inputs source the current. You will have to use a general purpose input (inputs 1-16) to use the PNP sensor.

According to the Centroid Probe Setup Guide, the recommended solution would be to install toggle switches for the operator to control the probe and TT detect signals. This, of course, has room for operator error but it is safer than not using the detect functionality.

Would it be possible to switch a relay with a macro using M6T200 to bridge the monitoring?

Yes, it should be possible to do that by editing mfunc6.mac to include some IF THEN ELSE statements to detect when T200 is requested and set probe detect. Relevant system variable seems to be #4120 for requested tool.
That may cause trouble when doing automated tool library measurements if it also controls the TT detect.
