old m400 control

Post by dnelso »

I have a m400 pc console serial num 6260. On startup it wont home the x axis. It moves faster than normal and then errors out with a position error. The limit switch works when jogging the x axis by hand. X axis also moves the same direction regardless of which direction you are jogging with arrow keys. All other axis work fine.
Thanks Dave

Have you checked that the X encoder is operating correctly. You can look at it's output on the PID screen.
Cheers,

Tom

I have CDO. It's like OCD, but the letters are where they should be.

On the pid screen x loooks good on the encoder. The x axis will not hold after startup and while trying to jog it makes the others not hold

If the encoder feedback is good, but the X axis runs away when enabled, it is likely a servo drive failure.

You could isolate the problem by swapping motor cable connections between, for example, X and Y. Either swap the MS connectors at the motors; or swap both the power wires (at the bottom of the drive) and also the encoder plugs (9-pin extension cables) inside the cabinet.

If the X motor still runs away when controlled as the Y axis, then the problem is with the motor or encoder. If the Y motor runs away when controlled as the X axis, then the problem is likely with the servo drive.

If you are in North America, it is easy enough to send the servo drive to Centroid for repair and return. Contact tech support for an RMA.

If shipping to and from the USA is impractical, then get an electronics tech to look at the top four FETs on the heat sink.

i'd toss and Allin1DC on it with a new computer and it would be good to go for another ten years.

If i convert to all in one can all wiring be reused including motor transformer power. The motors are mts30m4-48. Would i use a touchscreen for all the operation or can i use some of the control panel.
Thanks Dave

You cannot reuse the jog panel of the old M400 console with an Allin1DC upgrade.

You can buy a new M400 console, or a new jog panel pendant, to work with the Allin1DC; or you can just install a suitable emergency stop button, and use the on-screen virtual control panel for the rest.

I ordered the all in one kit. Is there a touch screen you recommend.

bought the all in 1 touch screen and was trying to do the bench test and was getting this error (error opening mpu.plc). I could not toggle switch inputs with the cntr-alt-i command. Is this a problem or am i doing something wrong.
Thanks Dave
