CNCSNW Thank you for sharing those links. I had no idea about the depth of Centroids control products. I also took a quick look at your website and your professional retrofits.

I don't see a computer on the shelf - is it in the box?

Is it under the shelf? The reason I want to verify is that the current owner was told the motherboard was removed.

I want to thank everyone for their efforts helping me with this. When looking at equipment that is completely unfamiliar and far away I feel that I should try to find as much information as possible to make a decision.
The machine is a Hardinge AHC, which in it's as built condition would make me run. The conversion to a Centroid control by a reputable builder takes away most of the hesitation. There are still concerns with if the current system is a viable candidate for repair or whether is would be best to start over.
when I was told the number, that was on the invoice, was a Hardinge s/n I found this https://www.bidspotter.com/en-us/auctio ... b60000bebe
I was Looking at CHNC machines and they are all too big for my situation. I have a nice unmolested HC, that I wish to leave unmolested, although an Omniturn-like conversion would certainly be considered...
Thanks again,
Bill

https://photos.app.goo.gl/244YnF9ykyUf7mfq7 I have committed to buy this Hardinge AHC. The generic plan is to review the current controls and decide what the best upgrade path is.

Re: Hardinge lathe >>New Project

Hardinge AHC will be here on Monday...so the project begins. I have been trying to capture information about the components and try to understand what I will be looking at. I appreciate that Centroid still has data sheets for some of these controls. I found a sheet for the PLCIO2 and am looking for the SERVO1 info. There is a good description on the CNCSNW site .
When the unit arrives there will be a lot of checks to do and I currently don't have a priority list. I would do an overall examination, I know the control box cable has been cut so I expect replacing wires. I would like to get the spindle running.
Any advice would be appreciated as I am not familiar with cnc lathes and all the items that are controlled. I have started a list of inputs/outputs that could be needed; things like open/close collet (?) I assume that could be controlled...I have a lot to learn - never looked at Gcodes for a lathe (my mill Gcode knowledge is very basic) Is there a manual for the T39 system?>>FOUND IT

A couple items done today I bought some soow cord and a plug, built the power cord and connected to power leads to the switch box. I connected some air and found a leak at the collet - further investigation is necessary. There are brass pipes with quick connect fittings and I may just have to add some teflon tape...https://photos.app.goo.gl/r1EwzGoV2FiCTjrB7
The control box had the umbilical cord cut and my first look didn't make me puke. I'm starting to think that the mobile cabinet was set up for sigle phase power - there are a bunch of cut extension cords that I will look closer at. The power cab has a VFD and 3 fuses but a single 3 wire cord that was cut, with the mating end in the control cab. https://photos.app.goo.gl/M3RtZkgeqrZX7m2q9
I want to see if the computer can boot- it's an old pc with no obvious power supply. UPDATE ->> There is no power supply, it was hacked out. https://photos.app.goo.gl/N5hT8SW6xTN5M4eBA
I removed the extension cord monstrosity - I think it was used to run another computer since there was an old keyboard cable and VGA cable intermingled.

Not only is the computer missing the power supply but the flashcard that would have had the software is not there. I contacted the seller and he doesn't have it. It is now time to move on to a full upgrade. That is what I expected, and I am glad I found out early.
What that probably means is I have a lot of stuff for sale at very low prices - I won't get rid of it until the new system arrives but if there is any interest let me know early.
Servo1 >> Not available as I have to return it when I get my upgrade
