412 MPG1 encoder error

Post by cncjeff1 »

Good Morning All,
I just received a call from a client reporting the above error. This is from the wireless MPG. This is an M400, #104509. Would it help if I went into Device Manager and deleted the hardware and then reboot to allow it to Auto-Detect? Could it be an actual connection issue inside the MPG? Thanks in advance.
BTW, the "412 @ axis(4) encoder differential error" is an issue with a scale attached to the knee and is a separate issue.

Has anyone else had a problem with the WMPG? Perhaps a problem with the USB dongle? Is the dongle matched to the WMPG or a separate product? Dongle make and model? Could this possibly be a warranty issue. Dealer of record is Blumenfeld - General Machines. I provide their technical support.

Does it show "412 MPG1 encoder error", but actually work just fine?

Does the MPG not work, but does show a copy of the DRO display?

Does the MPG not work and does not show a copy of the DRO, but does show radio connectivity?

Does the MPG show "lost RF"?

I noticed this error in the report, but I personally have never seen it, so I do not know if the WMPG was working or not. My understanding is that it intermittently just stops working.

Does the MPG not work, but does show a copy of the DRO display?
The WMPG intermittently stops working. The only thing on its display is the symbol for the signal strength and the symbol for the battery.

Does the MPG not work and does not show a copy of the DRO, but does show radio connectivity?
When the problem occurs, the WMPG does not work and it does not show a copy of the DRO. It does however show a signal present (radio connectivity).

Does the MPG show "lost RF"?
Not that I have seen.

Is there any way that the WMPG can be reset without powering off the machine and then restarting. So far, the only way to get the WMPG to work again is to cycle the power. I can duplicate the problem by just cycling the power on the WMPG. I can press the power button, turn of the WMPG, then press it again to turn it back on. Whennit is powered on again, the only things on the display are signal strength and battery. I am thinking that it is just a faulty unit. Possible? Likely?

If you exit CNC12 (F10, F9) then start it again, that might cause MPGClient.exe to be re-launched, and make contact with the MPG again.

i second what marc said, and plug directly into USB port on the CNCPC not thru a hub or extension cable.

I suggested that as a diagnostic test, not as a fix or even a long-term workaround.

Please let us know what happens when you exit and restart CNC12.

Also let us know whether changing USB ports, and bypassing any USB hub, makes a difference in the behavior.

yep got that, i wasn't suggesting a restart was a fix.
