Acer e-Mill Anilam to AllIn1DC conversion build

Have been planning on building a small machine shop to keep me occupied and earn some side money during retirement. Was recently forced into early retirement at 60 after working 16 years for the same place. I need to move forward a little sooner than I had anticipated.

I got the mill from the son of the 2nd owner. The father purchased it when it was like a year old. He hardly used it before he passed. The son has been holding onto it but decided to let it go last summer. After using it I decided I need a more modern control.

I took the plunge and got the Allin1DC. I will be doing the conversion myself with your all's help.

I am at the point of deciding the cabinet layout.

I was sent the file S1746.r18 for the wiring diagram to use. I will try my best to figure things out on my own, but will for sure need your help no doubt.

The title of the file includes ''83VAC Stepdown Transformer'' I do not believe the one that was in the cabinet is 83VAC. It is configured with 120v stepping down to 24VDC. Is this the correct step down to use?

The install manual shows a large step-down transformer, is this something I need to purchase?

The "83VAC stepdown transformer" is part of the servo power supply, which provides a source of 100+ VDC, with a capacity of 15A or more, to the servo drive. That is what the servo drive uses to power the axis motors. The rest of the servo power supply, in a Centroid factory control, is the "CAPBRDLO" (or "CAPBRDHI") rectifier board and capacitor.

The Anilam control would have to have had something similar, to feed the "B+" and "B Ret" terminals on its drives. It is possible they rectified 120VAC without the benefit of a stepdown transformer. If your servo motors and drive can handle up to 170 VDC, then that is an option that will save a little money.

The 24VDC 1.2A regulated power supply is not useful for powering servo motors. It would be useful for relay, contactor and solenoid coils, if you have such devices with 24VDC coils.

Thanks. I was watching one of Marty's vids last night and noticed he said the stepdown could be optional if the drives could handle the voltage, as you also said.
Turns out these can handle 140 Volts max. Assume no need for the amplifiers then?

Several things:
1. Since you are planning on using ALLIN1DC, you will not need the Anilam drives/amplifiers. The ALLIN1DC has three 15A channels built in. If you need a 4th axis, then a DC1 will make it happen.
2. That pictured "step down transformer" is a linear 24 VDC power supply.
3. It is likely that you will need a step down transformer to go from whatever you plan on powering the mill with (120VAC, 220VAC etc) down to a safe level. The ALLIN1DC is specified for motor voltages from 20 to 180 VDC. 83 VAC is a good choice because it rectifies to 120 VDC. The Anilam motors should be alright as long as you are rectifying less than 99 VAC.

Thoughts on this layout?

The CAP is under the left hand side of the AllIn1DC. Power supply is unde the right hand side. Not 100% decided on where the cable management will be best utilized.

I have a larger TB1 on order though it may be too tight.

Question

Does the print for TB1 show a strap or bar connecting 1-3, 4-7, 8-10, 11, 12-15 ?

Included pics of what I have, just not sure it is correct.

Yes it does. there are four busses in the diagram: 1-2-3, 4-5-6-7, 8-9-10, and 12-13-14-15. Connection 11 is not tied to any other.

Thinking this layout should work.

Does not include the EMI Filter but there is room up top...more if I move the CAPBRD under the AllIn1DC
