As long as you don't have bare motor power leads hanging in a pile of chips, it will not do any harm to the control to power up with the Z motor disconnected.

If the control was set up properly, you should have an F5 "2 axis" / "3 axis" key on the F1/Setup screen. If you switch to 2-axis mode, then Z will disappear from the DRO, and the control should be content to run without the Z motor connected.

Did you get the SERVO3IO unit repaired or replaced?

Hi, sorry did not see these responses. First, thanks SO MUCH for answering my questions and the question about the z servo being disconnected. I don't think i have the f5 button shown, but I will let you know once i get the machine back together. is that part of the plc programming ? ( I'm attaching pics. the cream colored quill mount {which came with the control} doesn't look like it had an option for the z disconnect feature. the grey one is the elrod mount does {which i intend to install} )

Additionally, once this is repaired and functioning, i intend to upgrade the motherboard so i can install CNC 10. Linux I have another machine with that version installed and would like to keep them uniform. with USB and Network support.

I sent the unit in for repair last week. they should be looking into it now. at first they didn't find any issues with it but i sent the link to the post where you were troubleshooting it and they responded that they would have another look

hello. Chelsea sent you email, if you didn't get it here is the status of the unit.

Tech Support found no issues with the unit, checked it twice, and put it in long term testing fixture, should be done with "burn in" today.
