Main spindle C-axis
Is there a wiring diagram for using a 11kw servo motor as your spindle motor and also as your c-axis? I believe this would need to be on any board other than the acorn board for the plus-minus analog signal? Or maybe just the Oak board for closed loop?

Re: Main spindle C-axis
others have used AC servos that accept both step and direction and 0-10 analog input and switch the drive from the one mode to the other. Uwe has done this on his C axis build.

Re: Main spindle C-axis
I checked out his videos. He did a fantastic job and I could do it just like he has done but Im looking for another option. If I have to buy a vfd anyway I was thinking along the line of the delta c2000 with encoder, But how would you talk to the centroid board and be able to use that as an axis? How would it be able to except code? Does it even work like that? That's why I was asking about a wiring diagram so I could see how it comes together. I have read other places this is possible but no real details or diagrams. Is this why Uwe doid his this way? I believe Haas does it he way as well.

Re: Main spindle C-axis
if you use a 3 phase ac motor with VFD to operate in regular lathe mode, then you need a servo to drive the spindle in C axis mode. this c axis motor is engaged and disengaged when using C axis or not. C axis is wired like any other axis. you write a custom M code to switch in and out of C axis mode that will engage and disengage the C axis motor when needed. etc.

Re: Main spindle C-axis
I've though of using a couple of gears and an air cylinder to engage them. You could mount the servo to a lever and move the whole thing up and down, or rigidly mount the servo and just push an idler gear into place between the servo and spindle gears. However this would have backlash. Probably the better solution is a belt and clutch.

Re: Main spindle C-axis
Thanks for the replies. I'll go with the extra servo motor and a clutch for engaging. I'll need to read up on the custom m code. Haven't need one until now but looking forward to figuring it out.
