Hi
I have a Haas Mini Mill year 2001.
This machine has Yaskawa SGMG 09A2ABC (with brake) on Z axis and SGMG 09A2AB on X and Y (SIGMA 1 servos)
These are 850 watt / 1500 rpm, 8192 P/R incremental encoder, AC servos, 24 VDC brake
Spindle motor is an AC motor with a separate 8192 cpr encoder, motor is driven by a larger servodrive (as shown in picture 4017C)
Rotary table is powered by a Sigma 1 motor as well. Has a pneumatic brake.
Toolchanger is a 10 pocket umbrella style with DC motors.
Machine is mechanically in very good condition.
My question is: Will an Acorn six or Oak controller be a good option? And will they handle the Haas servodrives?
I mean if they will, I would be able to do a retrofit at a very affordable cost, and the machine would be completely up to date performance wise
Centroid compability with Haas

Re: Centroid compability with Haas
I can't speak on the compatability of the servo drives with the Centroid board, but either board would suit your Haas well. One of the many differences between the AcornSix and the Oak is the Acorn boards are step and direction but the Oak is closed loop control.

Yes, actually I can see it now, I will need to buy a set of Yaskawa drives

If you need servo drives, I have had good luck buying Yaskawa parts from Alibaba. If you need a contact let me know, otherwise any good distributor should get you set up. Also make sure that your encoder cables on the Haas will plug into your servo drive.Joern Markset wrote: ↑Mon Jan 16, 2023 7:09 am Yes, actually I can see it now, I will need to buy a set of Yaskawa drives

im in a slightly different situation; a Haas Minimill CE yr 2001 has become available here in Ireland - ive done retrofits with linuxcnc before, but only on small education machines. ive almost no exsperience of Haas machines.
Are your exsiting Yaskawa drives faulty, or not compatable with the "oak" (im new to centroid) servo drives?
all the best,
Bruce.

No, my machine is actually in excellent condition as it has very few hours. (been sitting 20 years in a tradeschool)Harvolt wrote: ↑Wed Feb 01, 2023 5:58 am Hello Joern,

I`m just sourcing my options for a new controller. Was thinking of remove all the Haas electronic and sell it as it sells for quit good prices, but not made a final decision yet.
The mini mill does not have Yaskawa drives, they have Haas amplifiers.
What I can say is that you will learn the Haas controller rather quickly, even the old controllers are quit nice to work with.
In my eyes the mini mill is a great machine for the price of it.
Cheers
Jørn

Haas Drive look like a serial link and could not able to use it .But you can use yaskawa motor with sigma5 or sigma7 drives
