The ideal shop has a dedicated room for cnc machines, a white floor, climate control, air exchange systems, mist and dust collectors and someone to follow you around sweeping up.
Taj Mahal legend stuff.
While I am "climate controlled" meaning heat and air 24/7/365 I lack the other amenities.
For those of us without the goodies this can be hard on the muffin fans in our cnc control systems.
Eventually the grinding dust, welding smoke and liquid mists collect on the muffin fans and they will fail.
Worse case scenario is that the mist lands on the electronics via the fan.
The foam filters will stop chunks but little else.
What to do?
My solution after a failed fan on the main control box.
I had an 8" OD filter in stock for one of my garden tractors. Perfect size.
A 8" square piece of 1/4" aluminum.
Some 1/4-20 threaded rod and nuts
Make four standoff tubes to control tension on the filter and not warp the plate.
Some wrinkle paint
Muffin fan. Mine had this one installed.

FWIW the air flow out the vents is stronger. New fan and/or increased air flow via the filter? Dunno. It's a win.
I am eyeballing the M400 control to see what I can do with upgrading it's inlet filter.
