Mazak Mazatrol and Mitsubishi control/drives/servos.

Post by mynameisbill »

Hello all. I see almost no discussion on Mazak Mazatrol/Mitsubishi retrofits here. There is talk about Mori and Fanuc but little to none on Mazak…just curious as to why as I am close to making the decision to start what I envision as a long term bench build for an eventual install on a very nice 14” hollow spindle lathe. The machine is currently in service but if (when) the control dies then there are few options for repair.
To ask my question another way, is there something I am missing? If a Mori Seiki TL3 can be renewed with Centroid, so can a big and beautiful Mazak, right?
Cheers,
Bill in Bryan, Texas.

I pretty sure Centroid does not discriminate against oilfield equipment. You are probably looking at an Oak control, but without more info on the axis drives and spindle drive, it's not certain if those can be reused.

There are some photos of big iron being retrofitted posted here: https://www.centroidcnc.com/cnc_retrofit_images.html
Cheers,

Tom

As Tom mentioned more information would be helpful. Please follow this post:
https://centroidcncforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=64&t=383
Then better advice can be provided.

The issue most of the time is whether or not you can reuse the existing axis drives and or motors as well as the spindle drive with something like Centroid Oak. Knowing which specific drives you have would be helpful.

On the extreme, you would have to replace the drives/motors with those compatible with Oak.

Pictures as requested in the post above will help us help give you better advice.
