Yaskawa V1000 and Mitsubishi SJ-N SPindle motor

Post by beevo »

I am currently at the point where I need to tune the VFD I am using on a 5hp slant bed lathe.

VFD: Yaskawa V1000

Motor: Mitsubishi
Motor Plate.JPG

The fun begins with the information that I need to enter based on "how to tune yer motor" video found online. The screen shot below is the information required
VFD Motor Info.JPG
VFD Motor Info.JPG (23.82 KiB) Viewed 1453 times
I have entered (but not gone any further) the following:

Motor Rated Power: 3.7kw
Motor Rated Voltage: 200v
Motor Rated Current: 29a
Motor Base Frequency: 60hz
Number of poles: Unkown, but assume 4
Motor Base Speed: 1500rpm
Motor Iron Loss: looks like it is all there ;)

Any thoughts on the numbers I have selected and also any sage advice from someone who has some experience on this drive?

The rated current does not appear to be specified. 29A is the maximum current. Rated current for a 3.7kW 200V 50Hz motor would probably be between 16A and 20A. I would try 17.5A, just because (1) that is the FLC that the NEC lists for 5HP on 200V in table 430.250 (admittedly for 60Hz motors), and (2) that is the rated output of your VFD.

With a base speed of 1500 RPM, the base frequency would be 50Hz. This would correspond to 4 poles, as you expected.

It appears that setting T1-11 is optional.

I guessed, not expected. A lot of this is black magic to me. LOL

I appreciate the input!!

OK, everything went well with the tuning and no load operation of the spindle seems fine. The rest of the controls are still a work in progress.

I attempted to test some of this bu feeding 5vdc into the unit, no spindle run though. I am wondering if I have to deal with VFD Reset and Spindle OK inputs to get this to work?

The document I am using as my guide to wiring is attached.

Also, I ran across an image where they had a jumper across HC and H1, no real explanation that I could find for doing that.

HC and H1 are a safety inhibit circuit.

If you do not install external wiring through an emergency stop contactor or safety relay, then you need a jumper from HC to H1.

If that circuit is open, the drive will not run, and the drive would display "Hbb", for "hardware base-blocked".

See sections 3.2, 3.7 and D.4 in the V1000 Technical Manual.

I am following the Centroid diagram to the letter. It does not show the jumper.

Doesn't mean Centroid missed something...
Did you check and do what CNCSNW suggested?

Digging deeply into the Yaskawa information, the jumper needs to be in place or a safety switch needs to be placed across the terminals.

Cool. Good to know. We should make that suggestion to Centroid to add it to the schematic. We can create a list of parameters that need to be modified in order to work with Centroid Motion Controllers.

Perhaps suggest a Tech bulletin be created for the popular V1000

Once I get things working....

The only issue to be resolved is the DriveOk signal from the V1000 to the Acorn. The status on the Input/Output panel (Alt-i) is always red.
