losing encoder

Post by lauyder »

On my lathe that I Retrofit in 2010, the controller will lose the x encoder a few minutes after startup. I can restart it and it will work for a minutes, ( have to restart the controller ) do encoders work intermittently or would that be a GPIO4D or MPU11 problem? attached a report if that helps.

A faulty encoder is more likely. I have seen lots of encoders that fail after they get warm (though that usually takes more than a few minutes).

If you want to explore whether it is a hardware problem on your MPU11 board, just move the X axis encoder plug from encoder input #2 to encoder input #3, and change Parameter 309 from 2 to 3.

What type of servo drives and motors are you using?

When you get the frequent "X axis(2) full power without motion" stalls, are they because the motor has ceased to move? Or are they because the motor is running away, but the controller is not seeing any encoder feedback to show it is moving?
