Mold Magic Version will not load on Win7

Post by wtecksolutions »

When I purchased my used Ajax DM45 it came with a DP-4 and Mold Magic. I did not even think that the version of Mold Magic would be so old that it would load on a modern computer, cost me extra $$.

I have Mold Magic version 2.1 Rev.1. When I tried to load it on my Windows 7 PC it gives me an error when trying to run setup: "The version of this file is not compatible with the version of window you are running..."

I tried to load in compatibility mode but that didn't work.

Is there an update or upgrade for this software? Or is there a way to make this software work on Windows 7?

The unfortunate thing is that after purchasing an Ajax RT-150 and new TT-1 and DC1 I am running out of funds.

mold magic runs on XP only. some guys will buy an old running xp machine on ebay just to run it, but mostly they pick up a new cad/cam system to do that kind of work.
mold magic has been displaced by affordable 3D cad/cam systems such as vectric aspire and bob cad cam. (Aspire will accept a centroid .dig file directly.)
mold magic was created when these programs didn't exist or didn't have the 3D cutter compensation feature or were very expensive. It was a free program included with the dp-4 that could create roughing and finish passes from grid digitizing data.
now that affordable 3D cad cam systems are readily available and can do even more than mold magic, a decision was made not to continue the mold magic product.
if you like, i can send you the last version of mold magic (which does not require any kind of unlock or password to run) , the only limitation is that it will only run on a windows XP pc and it is un supported (except thru this free forum) but i'd suggest looking into Aspire or other similar programs to take advantage of the many new powerful features found in them and of course they run on windows 7 or 8 PC's.

Hi cnckeith,

This is twice your helping me out.......

The newest version would be nice to have. I was just trying to find my power supply to my old 32 bit XP machine to see if that would work with the software I have.

I do have BobCad/Cam v27 and BobArt and looked there but didn't see a .DIG extension. I also have Rhino5 and Turbocad on another computer but have not looked at that yet.

So if I can figure out how to get the point cloud into one of my programs then I should be ok with getting it into BobCad.

Please send me a private message with the newer version of Mold Magic, I guess that would be the best way for the software if it's not to big, or maybe I can open up a cloud location to get the files. If you have a better idea I'm open to it.

Thanks Again!!!

hello. there is nothing too special about the centroid .dig file format. its just a text file.. and mostly its just a list of X,Y, Z coordinates. the centroid control software has a DIG to CAD button in Digitizing menu that you can use to convert the .dig to .txt all it does is strip out the starting and ending g and m codes and the letters X,Y,Z from the .dig file and waaa..laa you have a list of X,Y,Z coordinates in a text file that almost any cad system on the planet can open/import. its just a point cloud.

here is the beginning of a centroid radial digitizing file, this is the file created automatically by the centroid digitizing radial cycle on a cylinder head combustion chamber.

and here is the .DIG original.. i had to rename the extension from .dig to .txt as phpBB was not allowing a .dig file to be attached.
if you want to play with the DIG to CAD button in the centroid software.. just rename it 20r.DIG and copy it to the ncfiles directory
