CSR Error

Post by tblough »

I'm trying to reuse an older fixture for a new part and I need to rotate the coordinate system by 45 degrees. When I probe two holes on my fixture and do the CSR, it always rotates X and not relative to Y.

First set up for manual 2-point in X (notice CSR graphic) in second photo. Position part over first hole, F10 accept.

MDI move to second hole, F10 Accept and "movement" is shown as displacement in X and not Y.

So, try doing a CSR in the Y axis (notice CSR graphic). Position part over the first hole, F10 accept.

MDI to the second hole, F10 to accept, and displacement is still shown in Y.

Actually, no mater what probing orientation I choose, the CSR is always a dislacement in Y.

How do I get those two holes to be along a rotated X axis?
Cheers,

Tom

Set the CSR angle first, then set X and Y part zero second.

I don't know the exact angle. That's why I'm probing two known points on the fixture. Those two points are along the X axis in my program. The fact that the first point is 0,0 was just to make it easier to MDI back and forth between points since you can't access probing from the CSR screen.

If I recall correctly (and it has not changed in some recent release) CNC12 assumes that if your two points are closer together in Y than they are in X, then rotation should put the rotated X axis through those points; and if your two points are closer together in X than they are in Y, then rotation should put the Y axis through those points.

So, if you are looking for a CSR angle very close to 45 degrees, you are going to have trouble getting consistent results. You can always calculate the arctangent yourself and just type the angle into the WCS table; or you can let CNC12 calculate it for you, and if you don't like the answer, go to the WCS table and add or subtract 90 degrees.

Thanks Marc. Next time I have some spare time to play, I'll experiment with the angle setting. I just assumed the orientation selected would be the axis "rotated". While it was a 45° angle there was a few thousandths difference in the probed X and Y locations.

For now, I just redid the CAM to get the job finished.
